SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL - Venezia
A Public Art Project by Mister Clay - 2026
You have just discovered one of the 33 artworks that make up this project.
At Piazzale Roma, the main gateway to Venice, 31 waste bins and 2 utility cabins have been transformed into permanent public artworks. Every day, thousands of people from all over the world pass through this place. For many, it is their very first encounter with the city.
From this came a simple question:
Can something ordinary be transformed into something beautiful?
For years, these urban elements were part of the everyday landscape without attracting much attention. This project was born from the desire to look beyond their function and imagine new possibilities for objects that are usually overlooked.
Through a distinctive visual language and an extensive creative process, the 33 artworks form a single, site-wide installation that accompanies visitors as they enter Venice. An open and accessible experience designed to bring color, imagination, and surprise to one of the city's busiest locations.
The goal was not simply to create artworks, but to create a shared experience—an invitation to slow down, observe, and rediscover the ability to be amazed by the things that surround us every day.
Created with the support of Veritas and the City of Venice, and authorized by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, the project has resulted in 33 permanent interventions at the city's main point of entry.
Within just a few weeks, the initiative attracted the attention of residents, visitors, institutions, and the media. The project was featured by Rai 3, Il Gazzettino, Venezia Today, and Gente Veneta, reaching hundreds of thousands of people through television reports, articles, photographs, and content shared online.
But the most important result cannot be measured in numbers.
It is measured in the people who stop. In the looks, smiles, photographs, and spontaneous conversations sparked by an artwork. It is measured in the curiosity that led you to scan this QR code.
Because sometimes all it takes is a change in perspective to discover something that has been right in front of our eyes all along.
